Broadband Deployment at Anambra and Enugu Airport

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is the independent National Regulatory Authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, assigned with the mandate of regulating telecommunications service deployment and delivery in Nigeria. Part of the mandate is to protect and promote the interest of telecom consumers (citizens and non-citizens). NCC adopts diversified mechanisms and channels such as provision of GSM telecommunication and broadband internet services to realize its obligation.The goal of the Broadband Internet initiative at airports and markets is to provide complimentary internet access within the airport and market premises to passengers and consumers through enhanced connectivity. For tertiary institutions broadband initiative, would help improve e-learning.

Nigerian Communications Commission utilized its 2023 capital budget following a federal executive council approval to procure the systems and services required for the project. It advertised the project through selective tendering process. Office Machines Nigeria Limited was selected to implement a broad band internet solution for two low cost airports namely; Chinua Achebe International Airport Umueri, Anambra State and Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State.

Ten months into the project, we have successfully fulfilled the contractual obligations and are currently in the process to commence sustainability plans: maintenance, supervision and after sales support of the completed work.
